Light Sparkle

commissioned by the Stockholm County Council, completed June 2009

The installation is integrated in the ceiling of the radiation therapy room, covering about 20m2. It consists of 200 light dots in different sizes. The brightness, colour and dynamic of the lights are controlled by a very detailed programme, which repeats after 35 hours.
The Light Sparkle is created to offer a playful, relaxing and hopeful element in the radiation therapy room. An experience that can, for the moment, lead viewer's thoughts elsewhere from this specific environment. It might remind of marbles, colourful candy, spring blossom. It leaves space for the viewer's imagination to develop associations further or just to follow the play of light.

The Light Sparkle is made for Karolinska University Hospital, Solna
